At-Home Reading Blog Requirements

This online learning community will be a place for us to informally discuss ideas and reflect on topics and issues that relate to our independent reading books. You are expected to post to this blog at twice once a week. Blogs are due before class on Fridays, unless otherwise noted. Your blog assignments may take the format of responses to the questions I assign and feedback on one another’s comments in class. Feel free to add links to and reflections on relevant materials you find on the internet or any combination of these suggestions.The whole idea is that this blog be a vibrant space for inquiry-based discussion - so the more you communicate with one another about your ideas the richer the blogging experience will be for all involved!

How do I use the blog?
· Read the weekly question.
· Click on comment and begin typing your response. Make sure it is at least 50 words and shows your understanding of your independent reading book.
· Click on Comment as: and choose url/name. Then type in your username.
· Click on preview to make sure you like what you wrote, then post comment.
· Next, read other comments.
· Choose a comment to respond to.
· Repeat the above steps again, except this time refer to the username you are directly responding to.

F- No comment posted
D- Comment does not relate clearly to task and/or is less than 50 written words. Student does not respond to another comment.
C- Comment responds to task with some inaccuracy, may be general or vague but relates to class and content knowledge and/or student does not respond to another comment.
B- Comment is supported with relevant details OR richly thoughtful and meets all guidelines for the assignment. Student also responds to another comment.
A- Comment is thoughtful, sophisticated and rich with evidence and factual support from the independent reading book. Student also responds to another comment in an insightful way.
